Periodic Table of Typefaces

I like the periodic table. It is actually more useful than you'd think. Similarly behaving elements are grouped in blocks as well as columns, based on electrons and atomic mass, etc. Easily found at a glance! I don't remember who came up with the latest layout, but it's very functional. I have a secret love for it from my chem/bio days. I had it on my wall...but next to my desk, not my bed. But now I also appreciate it as a well-designed infographic.

I want to make a version that also has nice typography. Here is one OF typography:

Autobahn's Evergreen Font

I can't read it, but I think Autobahn is a small graphic design company from the Netherlands. They made a font out of grass sod. If you go to the link, it shows their whole process.

They also have fonts made of striped toothpaste, ketchup, whipped cream, hair gel, and maple syrup.

Wordle

This site called Wordle makes word clouds based on word frequency out of any text or website you feed it. You can change the font and colors, too.

I did one of the Seattle Times home page:

And one of Obama's inaugural speech:

Font Game

I just got a 28 out of 34 on I Love Typography's "The Rather Difficult Font Game." Maybe I should study more.

Cast Metal Type

I Love Typography had a picture up of metal type from thetypejunkie on Flickr:
